Global Give Back Day
Global Give Back Day
The 5th of September was our Give Back Global Day, a special date in the Ardonagh Charity Trust (ACT) calendar, when we unite across the Group and around the world in the spirit of collective action and in support of communities in need. This year ACT teamed up with global charity partner Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), to help raise funds for medical humanitarian work.
In Australia, more than 250 staff in more than 11 different locations participated. Globally, through this initiative the Group has raised more than AUD$87,500 and completed 5,200 miles.
The challenge: each participant walked a mile, to raise funds. Special shoutout to the Glen Waverly office, who went the extra mile, despite the weather being quintessentially Victorian.
Backpacks for Kids VIC
The Glen Waverley office has been volunteering monthly at the Backpack 4 Vic Kids warehouse, packing ‘My Essentials Packs’ for children in emergency care.
Our community support partner, Backpacks 4 Vic Kids founded by Sally Beard in 2014, provides crisis packs, nursery items, and gift packs to vulnerable children, from birth to seventeen years old, who are entering out-of-home care, including foster care, kinship care, permanent care, residential care, respite, and emergency accommodation.
In August, Aviso Specialty director Annette Baxter and commercial broking manager Jane Spiers applied for a grant from the Ardonagh Charity Trust (ACT) to support the important work Backpacks 4 Vic Kids provide, including their ‘Tiny Site’ initiative — a shipping container stocked with My Essentials Packs. These containers are placed regionally, allowing quick access to packs by Human Services and Police.
The My Essential Packs help by providing quality backpacks and nappy bags to displaced babies, children and youth (clothing sizes 0000 – youth 18), in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. Children may be homeless, entering out-of-home care or emergency accommodation.
Backpacks and nappy bags contain size and gender appropriate contents including essential items such as toiletries, clothing, sleepwear, a torch, blanket and a toy or activity which will belong to the child and will stay with them should they be relocated.
The Ardonagh Community Trust is the ‘not for profit’ arm of The Ardonagh Group.
Since ACT’s inception in 2017, over AUD$10,900,000 has been awarded in ACT Community Grants globally to over 200 charities – each different in their mission, but all nominated by Ardonagh colleagues.
